Apology of the Augsburg Confession: The Triglotta Edition by Philipp Melanchthon

After the Augsburg Confession was presented at the Diet of Augsburg, Roman Catholic opponents of the Reformation began to publish criticisms of the document. Philipp Melanchthon responded with this work, known as the Apology of the Augsburg Confession. In this book, Melanchthon demonstrates that the teaching of the reformers is that of Scripture, and also that it is consistent with the teachings of early church fathers. He addresses various criticisms, misunderstandings, and Scriptural arguments. This work continues to be used as one of the confessional documents of the Lutheran church.
