Kanoussis Ph. D","description":"\u003cp\u003eThis is the second volume of my book series in Engineering Electromagnetics. While the main subject in Vol. 1, is the derivation of Maxwell’s equations, following more or less the historical development, this second volume is devoted to the study of many interesting applications of Maxwell’s applications, which are of utmost importance in Electrical Engineering and Physics. One of the most important implications of Maxwell’s equations is the prediction of electromagnetic waves, propagating in free space, (vacuum), with the speed of light, (confirmed a little later by Heinrich Hertz). In this volume we study the propagation of electromagnetic waves through various media, unbounded and bounded, and thus develop an insight and an understanding of the propagating waves and their behavior. Chapter 1 is devoted to a systematic review of Maxwell’s equations. It is further shown that, by means of an appropriate transformation, Maxwell’s equations in free space, lead to a wave equation for the electric field E and the magnetic field H . This fact alone reveals the wave nature of the electromagnetic fields. Retarded potentials, the Poynting vector theorem and various other important, general topics, pertaining to electromagnetic fields, are covered in this chapter. In Chapter 2 it is shown that the wave equation admits traveling wave’s solutions and the representation of waves, varying sinusoidally in time, by complex vectors (phasors) is introduced. The fundamentals of wave propagation through various media occupy Chapters 3, 4 and 5.
